The factory has been participating in Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) under United Nations Framework
Convention on Climate Change program since February 2011. The project`s name is “Waste gas utilization for energy generation at Skopski Leguri DOOEL”. The CDM allows emission-reduction projects in developing countries to earn certified emission reduction (CER) credits, each equivalent to one tone of CO2. These CERs can be traded and sold, and used by industrialized countries to meet a part of their emission reduction targets under the Kyoto Protocol. The mechanism stimulates sustainable development and emission reductions. Moreover, the factory is in process of developing a long-term co-operation with Camco under carbon emission reduction projects. Camco is a global developer of greenhouse gas emissions reduction and clean energy projects.
The factory is participating in the project “Strengthening the capacities of the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning for the implementation of integrated prevention and pollution control and management of hazardous waste” that is supported by the Kingdomof Norway. The project started in 4th of November 2010, and will last until August 2013. The aim of this project in the first component is to speed up the process for issuing integrated environmental permits in metallurgy and energy sectors. The project selected to participate in only 4 industrial companies and among them is Skopski Leguri DOOEL.
28th of February 2011 Skopski Leguri DOOEL applied to participate in the project “Cleaner and more cost effective industry in Macedonia”. The project is funded by the Norwegian Government and is implemented by a consortium consisting of Norsk Energy, NGO Centre for Climate Changes and National Cleaner Production Centre Macedonia. The aim of the project is to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and a more cost effective energy intensive industry in the Republic of Macedonia. Also the project implementation is supported by Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Macedonian Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning.
